About our 2023 Ramadan campaign

“The best among you are those who bring greatest benefits to many others.”
– Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

Ramadan is here and there is no better time for reflection, action and change.

As we come together to celebrate this blessed month, there are more than 1 billion children globally living in poverty – without access to education, health, housing, nutrition, sanitation or clean water. This Ramadan, they’re hungry for change and the opportunity for a brighter, happier future.

At GIM Foundation, we’re on a mission to create happy, healthy and secure childhoods, and empowered futures.

For vulnerable children all around the world, your Zakat or Sadaqah could mean the difference between a full stomach and an empty one, health and disease, or even life and death. It could be the reason a child receives an education, an entire community is able to access clean drinking water or the reason a vulnerable family is able to earn a reliable income and break free from poverty.

Make a lasting change this Ramadan. With GIM Foundation, help children in need – now and into the future.

This Ramadan, you can help us deliver life-changing essentials like nutritious food, cleanwater, and access to health and education to children in Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Cambodia.

Ways you can help this Ramadan:

1. Feed the Fasting

“Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without any reduction in his reward.” [Tirmidhi]

Hot iftar meals

$4 will provide one hot iftar to a fasting person in Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Ghana or Cambodia.

Group Iftar

$400 will feed a minimum of 100 people in Africa for Iftar.  Ingredients used: 4 sheep and 50kg of rice.

Food Packs

$50 will provide a nutritious food pack to feed a family of five for the entire month of
Ramadan in Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Ghana or Cambodia.

2. Donate Sadaqah

Give a gift of charity this Ramadan and help vulnerable people across the world. From as
little as $50 you could make a real difference by supporting our work in responding to emergencies, empowering futures, and protecting the rights of children in need, globally.

3. Fulfill your Zakat obligation

Zakat al-Mal

Your Zakat is more than just a donation, it has a transformative effect – a simple donation
that can uplift children, their families and their communities. Your Zakat could mean shelter and protection for a family fleeing war, nutritious food for children battling hunger, access to health care for a sick mother, education for vulnerable children, or clean water for an entire community. Empower your Zakat and their future today.

Zakat al-Fitr

Pay your Zakat al-Fitr and help a vulnerable family celebrate this Eid – $15 per person ($75 for a family of five).

Zakat al-Fitr is a compulsory donation that all Muslims are required to pay in Ramadan and before the Eid prayers. All Muslims – regardless of their age – are required to pay Zakat al-Fitr.

The minimum amount due is the equivalent of about one sa’ (approximately 3kg) of rice,
wheat, or other staple food for each member of the household – including children and
dependants – even if they do not live in the same house.

4. Fidya and Kaffara

Fulfill your religious obligation and give your Fidya and Kaffara to help feed those in need and fight global hunger.

Fidya:

$8 for each fast that is missed. This should provide one person with two meals or two
people with one meal.

Kaffara:

Intentionally missing a fast: $240 per day (to feed 60 people at a rate of $4 per person).

Breaking a promise: $40 per day (to feed 10 people at a rate of $4 per person).

You can be confident that when you donate through GIM Foundation, you will directly
support some of the most vulnerable children and families, helping them meet their most basic needs and giving them the tools they need to empower their futures.

Calculate my Zakat

Our handy Zakat calculator will help you to figure out exactly how much Zakat you owe.  When you donate your Zakat through GIM Foundation during Ramadan, you’re not only fulfilling the sacred obligation of purifying your wealth, but you’re helping to empower children’s futures, and reaping the multiplied blessings of this holy month.

Rescuing children

Rescuing children

Children are especially vulnerable in times of crisis, so while we keep our focus on efforts that deliver long-term change, we are also responsive to the urgent needs created by disasters and conflict. We work with our partners on the ground to deliver critical emergency aid where it is needed.
 Empowering futures

Empowering futures

It takes a village to raise a child and our goal of creating happy, healthy and secure childhoods for all children requires the support of strong, empowered families and communities. That is why all our efforts take a holistic approach with the goal of creating stronger communities through access to education, food, water, and healthcare for sustainable change.
Protecting children

Protecting children

The best way to create a future where children are protected is to build communities where their rights are recognised and prioritised. We seek to support and advocate for children around the world, getting families, communities and the children themselves involved on the issues and policies that affect them, to effect change for safer, more empowered futures.
